“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” (John 15:4 NIV)
My sister came to visit recently. She is older than me, all grown up, and moved out. She lives in another state a long way from us, so I don’t get to see her often. There one little problem, I can’t talk to her.
My sister is deaf, so she converses through sign language, which I don’t know. I welcomed her home with excitement when she arrived, but a feeling of guilt came over me as she started to sign. I still couldn’t understand her. It has been almost two years since I last saw her, and in that amount of time I still hadn’t learned anything. Sure, I had looked at some worksheets a couple of times, but that wasn’t enough.
The same goes with God. He wants to know you, to talk to you. But if we never read our Bible, or pray at all, how can we get to know Him? When you get to heaven and you’re standing there before the Lord, do you want to be overcome with guilt because you never bothered to talk to him? Those few memorized lines of prayer before bed don’t really count much. But that’s not the only reason to spend time praying and reading the word. Studying scripture can even help you in everyday life. You will grow in your faith and your relationship with God.
So what are you waiting for? Go spend some time with your Father! Read your Bible, put on some worship music, something! AS for me, I’m signing up for sign language classes.
Hey guys, I’m Erin. I’m 14 years old–soon to be 15. I have lived in Texas my whole life–Texas girl through and through, but, no, I do not ride a horse to school. I have two awesome parents. My dad is a professor at the local university and my mom is a stay at home writer. My older sister Holly has a job up north so I don’t get to see her much, but I love it when we do get to visit her. I have three very loud, annoying, but somehow really lovable dogs. I am a sophomore in high school and a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. I enjoy acting, singing, reading, and writing. I absolutely love acting! I have been in several productions at my community theater and at my school. (read more…)
